New Moon: The Review

So, I just got home from the theater and I've got some good news.

First off, GNO was a success.  I feel like I just had a vacation.  My friends and I had a lot of fun.

Second (and the part everyone wants to know), the movie was good.  That's right, I said good.  Actually, now that I think about it I'm going to go ahead and say it was really great!  I loved it.  A lot.

I feel that the screenwriter and the director did a fabulous job with Mrs. Meyers book.  And even though they took some artistic license, changing things up a little, none of the changes were drastic enough to bother me.  There were times when I felt  the deviations from the original storyline were pure genius, only adding to the plot.

Director, Chris Weitz, was able to breathe life into the characters--giving them personalities--an area I feel Catherine Hardwicke failed, epically.  I found myself caring about the characters again, though yeah, Bella is grating on my nerves.  But I suppose that's to be expected since I've never really liked Bella all that much.  The thing is, I'm not sure if it's Bella I can't stand or if its just Kristen Stewart.  Maybe both?

Which brings me to my only real criticism of the movie: I don't think Kristen Stewart can act.  I gave her a free pass after seeing Twilight, but that's only because everything about that movie was horrible.  All the actors seemed to struggle in Twilight and I was fully willing to blame their short-comings on poor direction.  But now, with a new director, all the actors seem to thrive while Kristen Stewart just... doesn't.  Okay, and Taylor Lautner kind of sucks, too, but not half so bad [as his wig].  So yeah, not liking Kristen.

I want to mention that I really like Billy Burke in the roll of Charlie, Bella's dad.  He does an awesome job and really, I can't see anyone else do better.  Billy is Charlie.

The Volturi?  Exactly as I pictured them.  EXACTLY!

Oh! And did I mention that I love the wolf pack?  'Cause I do.  I love love love them!  I feel they were, for the most part, well cast.  I mean, amirite?

Sam, Jared, Paul, and Embry, the wolf pack sans Jacob.

Anyway, like I said, I loved the movie.  I think it is well worth seeing (more then once).  And girls, I think there is enough action that guys will like seeing it too... maybe (there still is a lot of teenage angst and brooding but I don't think my husband will mind.  Not after seeing the the showdown in Italy.  That's right I said showdown).

P.S. Am I the only woman in the world that doesn't think Edward is attractive?  I'm pretty sure I am.  But seriously, I just don't get why everyone is losing it over this guy:

Unattractive much?  I think yes.  I mean, with his smashed-in nose, angular face and freakishly pale skin there are times I could swear I'm looking at Lord Voldemort.  That's right, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named!  Not Sexy!

i agree with you, rob pattinson is NOT attractive. at least to me. and i also agree about the kristen stewart thing, she is not good. i haven't seen the movie yet but i'm basing this off my feelings from twilight.

Yeah- I gave up my midnight showing ticket for two reasons...

1. I am pregnant and therefore have a hard time staying awake past 10pm (let alone 3am). And

2. I would have been much more excited if Bella could act and Edward was hot. Been saying it from the beginning. It makes it especially hard to like a movie when you don't like the two main characters...

You know how I feel.... I think he is pretty rockin (although he doesn't hold a candle to my smokin hot husband :)) With everything else, I am totally with you Penny. It was such a fun night and the movie was great. Thanks for being a (teenager) with me.

Ugh...yah...HATE Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. Now, put the guy from Vampire Diaries in as Edward and I would swoon. I wondered if this one would be better simply BECAUSE there would be less of Pattinson and his 'not the right look' and poor acting (imo). Or maybe we have them so idealized that anyone would just feel 'off' in their roles? I don't know. I thought that was a possibility until I saw Vampire Diaries and how much better THOSE people can act and pull off the parts. And I'm not even a huge fan of that show.
Thanks again for the review. I'm going with a group of friends tonight AND our husbands so it's good to know the guys may be pleasantly pleased with it. Especially since Billy and I laughed our way through the last one.

I haven't seen it yet, but I definitely agree with you on the casting of Bella and Edward. I just don't see either of them. Yeah, Kristen Stewart just can't act the part well, and Rob Pattinson is just NOT Edward. Oh well. I knew that would happen when I heard they were making a movie.

Mwahahahaha! Yup, I'm pretty much right there with you on hating both Bella AND Kristen Stewart. Not a big fan of Edward or Robert Pattinsin either. How can something that pale and sick-looking, be considered 'overwhelmingly beautiful'?! Yuck. I haven't seen New Moon yet, but I get more excited everytime I hear someone else say they loved it. :-)

I think they could have cast my neighbor's dog as Edward and tweens would go crazy over him. seriously. I don't think he's hot either. Whatevs. Lookin' forward to seeing the movie, though!

Your writing is always fun honey. There's something most girls (& their mothers) aren't noticing about Taylor Lautner (a.k.a. Jacob Black) yet. But they will sooner or later and have to move on. Waah Waaahhhhh!

Thanks Duane. BTW, you need to log out of my account before you post a comment on my blog. Otherwise it just confuses everyone. Especially me.

Everyone else, I'm glad my review was helpful. I'm super happy to hear that there are others on this planet that don't find Pattinson attractive. He pretty much grosses me out. A lot. Oh, and Kristen Stewart always looks like she's going to pass out. Even when she's "acting". What's that about? Is she drunk all the time? High? What???

P.S. Duane is convinced that Taylor Lautner is gay. Like, actually gay, gay. Like, boy-kissing-boy gay. So that's what he's talking about when he says that most girls and their mothers will be discovering about Taylor soon. I'm not sure where he's getting that vibe, but either way I don't really care. Taylor is a baby so I'm not all that interested. Plus, Steven Strait would have made a better Jacob, (after he started to phase). Plus plus, he's totally legal (and Lautner is not, which is just too creepy for me).
